HQI Cares: Implementing BETA HEART® Expanding to Include 32 Hospitals in 2023

HQI Cares: Implementing BETA HEART®, a partnership with BETA Healthcare Group and Inland Empire Health Plan Hospital Pay-for-Performance Program, will expand from 24 to 32 hospitals next year.

The program works with hospitals to develop reliable, sustainable cultures of patient safety and systems of care for the caregivers and feedback from hospitals in the inaugural cohort has been unequivocally positive. The participating leaders have described the program as timely, needed, and effective. Through HQI Cares, some hospitals are rolling out their first culture-of-safety surveys. Others are making improvements to their existing surveys and processes. Several have increased survey response rates to over 60%. The majority of hospitals are also building the capacity to care for their caregivers, specifically developing formal resources and programs through which trained peers are dispatched to provide emotional support to their colleagues after patient harm or other difficult events. Leaders have noted that these developments have begun to have a positive impact on staff morale and engagement.
