HQI Cares: Implementing BETA HEART Going Strong in 24 Hospitals

In the Inland Empire region of California, 24 hospitals are hard at work developing cultures of patient safety and caring for the caregivers under the guidance of HQI and its partner BETA Healthcare Group.

The hospitals are a part of Inland Empire Health Plan’s Pay-for-Performance Program, which has added participation in HQI Cares: Implementing BETA HEART® as one of its financial incentives.

To date, all participating hospitals have met the incentive milestones, including onboarding, gap analysis, workshop attendance, and communication skills assessments. Currently, hospitals are working on quarter 2 milestones, which include defining their steering teams and creating action plans for the remainder of 2022. Most are starting off with a revamped rollout of a validated culture of safety survey, with the goal of a more than 60% response rate and plans for a substantive organization-wide debriefing process on the results.

HQI Cares: Implementing BETA HEART is open to all HQI member hospitals. It is a multi-year program designed to guide hospitals through the development of a reliable and sustainable culture of safety, improved response to patient harm events, and an effective organizational infrastructure to provide care to caregivers.

Enrollment for 2023 will begin in July. For more information about the program and enrollment opportunities, contact Boris Kalanj, HQI’s director of programs, at bkalanj@hqinstitute.org.  A recording of the informational webinar is also available.
