President's Message

Advancing Patient Care Is Only Possible Together

Earlier this week, more than 200 hospital leaders and patient safety experts gathered for the 2025 HQI and Hospital Council Annual Conference, where they shared insights and explored the policy changes, technology advances, and workforce stresses that make patient safety both challenging and rewarding.

This annual event is an important piece of our work together. One organization’s learnings become another’s prevention plan, and together our organizations drive progress far greater than any one could achieve on its own.

This year’s event covered a wide range of topics: a scalable nursing framework that can adapt to whatever the future brings, a playbook for streamlining overcrowded emergency departments, and ideas that barely scratch the surface of artificial intelligence’s implications for health care — to name just a few.

The common thread among these presentations? Forward momentum. Each keynote, each breakout session was designed to give attendees actionable information to take back to their hospitals. As the health care field at large begins to imagine a future impacted by the One Big Beautiful Bill Act — which will cut $911 billion in Medicaid spending over the next decade — our ability to adapt, to move forward in the face of all odds, will be tested as never before.

This collaboration wouldn’t have been possible without our distinguished speakers and sponsors. From the entire HQI team: Thank you for your commitment to improving patient care.

Over the coming years, the health care landscape will undoubtedly change. One thing, however, will remain the same: your dedication to patients and their safety.
