Dr. Dawn Evans is a seasoned Patient Safety and Quality professional with over fourteen years of experience in this field. A Registered Nurse for over thirty years, Dr. Evans serves as the current Director of Patient Safety, Quality, and Infection Prevention at Barton Health in South Lake Tahoe, California. Her role includes overseeing the organizational event reporting system and responding to patient harm events. Dawn holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from the University of Phoenix, where her culminating project focused on event reporting system usability and efficiency. Dawn’s academic achievements also include a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, a Master of Business Administration in Healthcare Management from Western Governors University, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Sonoma State University. Dr. Evans is recognized as a Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS), a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ), and a TeamSTEPPS Master Trainer.

Dr. Evans has spearheaded various initiatives at Barton Health, including organizational-wide Daily Safety Briefs, implementation of TeamSTEPPS methodology, the establishment of a Patient and Family Advisory Council, the introduction of bedside capnography monitoring, and inpatient fall reduction. She has presented on numerous topics, including capnography, rural healthcare issues, and medication safety for patients. She recently presented her doctoral project findings at the American Society for Health Care Risk Managers and NAHQ Next national
