Shedding Light on Dark Behaviors in Healthcare: What Hospitals Must Learn from Prosecutions of Nurses for Serial Murder

August 13, 2025 | 11:00AM - 12:00PM PT

This webinar will cover data regarding 150 prosecutions of healthcare providers for serial murder of patients in their care. The vast majority of Healthcare Serial Killers (HCSK) are nursing staff, 61% RNs, 6% PNs, 18% Aides, with 12% MDs and 2% ancillary personnel. Recommendations for prevention and early intervention when a cluster of suspicious deaths are associated with presence of a specific provider will be covered. Strategies for working with appropriate authorities while maintaining due process will be discussed, along with how to avoid administrative failures that have resulted in wrongful death lawsuits.

Presentation topics include:

  • Identify red flags of suspicious patient deaths
  • Discuss strategies to protect patients from a “rogue” provider
  • List at least three approaches to minimize patient harm
  • Explore best practices for hospitals to work with law enforcement and regulatory agencies to prevent additional deaths
