Can artificial intelligence enhance the performance of doctors? Despite nearly 50 years of using AI for clinical decision support (CDS) in medicine, diagnostic errors remain persistently high. However, advancements in large language models (LLMs) and other generative AI technologies present exciting new opportunities to augment, provide feedback, supervise, and, in some cases, even replace human decision-making in clinical settings. Dr. Rodman, a leading expert in this field, will explore the conceptual framework, review the latest evidence, demonstrate real-world applications of these technologies in clinical workflows, and share insights on the future direction of AI in healthcare.
Presentation topics include:
- Understand both the burden of diagnostic errors and psychological frameworks for why though are so difficult to mitigate
- Review our current understanding of large language models (LLMs) for clinical decision support (CDS), with a thorough literature review and demonstration of the technology in actual clinical workflows.
- Discuss “right around the corner” AI CDS technologies, most notably scalable oversight systems.
