CHPSO Patient Safety Organization, a division of the Hospital Quality Institute (HQI), was established to harmonize quality improvement and patient safety efforts. CHPSO works toward eliminating preventable patient harm and improving the quality of health care delivery in hospitals. One of the first and largest patient safety organizations in the nation, CHPSO is a trusted leader in the analysis, dissemination, and archiving of patient safety information. CHPSO’s initiatives include providing a collaborative and privileged environment where hospitals can share data and best practices, analyzing adverse outcomes and developing corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence, developing educational materials, and serving as a statewide resource for patient-safety initiatives in California.
This position is primarily responsible for: fostering statewide collaborations with member hospitals across HQI/CHPSO programs and initiatives; using clinical experience, knowledge of current issues, and critical analysis of safety reports and discharge data to help identify emerging trends and ongoing safety of care concerns; developing and providing informative written reports and presentations to educate HQI/CHPSO staff and member institutions with the goal of eliminating preventable harm and improving the quality and reliability of health care delivery, collaborating with other members of the HQI/CHPSO team and vendors to improve the intake, classification, and delivery aspects of the CHPSO safety report and Hospital Quality Improvement Platform systems; and providing timely, high-quality, value-added technical consultative services in response to member research/data requests and other inquiries, and interpretation of clinical issues for internal team members.
To be successful, you will need to have the following education, skills and talents:
- Clinical experience in an acute health care setting is required.
- Must have been a licensed medical professional; RN or MD with advanced degree preferred.
- At least five years of experience involving patient safety risks and health care quality, such as conducting safety event reporting, entering or analyzing safety events in a reporting system (e.g., Midas, RL Datix, Verge Solutions), or serving as safety or quality committee member; or experience in EMR related roles in implementation, clinical decision support, and/or back-end data support.
- Excellent oral, written, communication and consulting skills, including experience writing quality and safety alerts, articles, reports, procedures, or research documents.
- Experience working with protected health information and ensuring compliance with PSQIA/HIPAA privacy laws and security policies.
- In-depth knowledge of health care quality and risk measure specifications; experience with measure development and testing is highly desirable.
- Advanced skill level in Microsoft Office software programs, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Experience in project management effectively designing, operationalizing, and managing complex, multi-stakeholder data projects from start to finish.
- Demonstrated advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, timeline-driven environment and complete analysis, identify issues and address problems in a professional manner.
- Experience coaching, providing direct technical assistance, and customer support.
- Demonstrated strong organizing skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage own time and that of collaborating partners with minimal supervision, consistently meeting deadlines.
- Ability to work as a team member and serve as a role model for effective team-promoting behavior.
- Familiarity with state and federal health care policy and regulatory landscape is desired.

Valley Children’s Health Care
SUMMARY: Provides expertise in database management and data validity analyses. Performs decision support analysis for various business development projects and organizational performance improvement indicators. Develops reports, analyzes and interprets data, including graphing and summarizing information using various software programs including Crystal Report Writer in support of organizational goals, initiatives and improvement efforts. Serves as an expert resource to the organization and other members of the Quality and Patient Safety team. Serves as a resource to various departments within the hospital when called upon to design methodology, analyze and interpret data, and communicate findings. Accountable for assisting with evaluating and monitoring patient care and operational information as it relates to outcomes and performance improvement.
REQUIREMENTS: This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field with a Master’s Degree preferred. Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is preferred. Minimum three (3) years related experience required with a minimum five (5) years increasingly responsible experience demonstrating proficiency in the skills and knowledge required to perform the job preferred. Demonstrated project management experience, demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are required. Must be able to function independently and possess strong critical thinking, organization, and decision-making skills. Must have customer focus and ability to build and maintain highly effective relationships across organization. Excellent written and verbal communications skills required.
POSITION DETAILS: Full time, 80 hours per pay period. Monday – Friday 8:00am-4:30pm.
